I can’t believe that the first week of school is to an end! It’s been fun.
Johnny had a note home in his backpack about the Curriculum night on the 26th. This upcoming Tuesday. I removed myself from PTA after Johnny finished first grade. Which I hate. I’ve always wanted to be a PTA mom. They weren’t very welcoming to new ideas, or new anything. It was just darn awkward. Sometimes, it’s just better to give up the fight than to keep fighting. I’ve resigned myself to be the best damn Room Mom there is.
Back to the subject at hand though, Curriculum night is on the 26th. The time? 4:00-5:15. It’s also and ice cream social from 5:00-5:15. Isn’t that odd? I want to be there, so I’m changing my work schedule around…hopefully. What about those parents that can’t do that? Our district is one where in most families, both parents are working. They can’t afford to take off from work. One of my friends was asked to join PTA last year a co-president. I hope she’s able to make the change, I do. You had better believe that I’m going to give her my concerns about this event. Why couldn’t it have been from 7:00-8:30?
Ice cream at 5:00…I just don’t like it! Would you say anything?

Sure, what’s the worse that will happen? They will keep it at the same time… oh well. Just try. Some other parents will probably appreciate it!
Good luck!
I absolutely would. It’s something that needs to addressed. And I’m sure the other parents will be glad that someone brought it up. I run into this problem all the time at the boys school and I miss out on alot. But I’m just glad that Richard is able to go and I always get an update on what’s happening.
Wishing you the best of luck. Be sure to let us know how it goes.
That does seem a little insensitive to working parents. I’d at least talk to them, to find out what their reasoning is, and let them know your concerns. Hope they’re willing to listen!
you and i seem to be battling it out for the stroller, but i just wanted to check in and say you have a beautiful blog…and family!
good luck!
Because I can’t keep my big mouth shut, I’m sure I would say something. I’m a stay at home mom, but have always wonderd about such plannig. Mom’s and Dad’s who work can’t be involved in their childs education when times are set at such early times.
As for PTA, I think it often atracts moms who are looking for recogintion, and power. Not always, but thats just my experience. I have taken your rout and made my goal to be the best home room mom ever!!!
