I am so excited to bring to you Mother’s Day gifts made by survivors.
The Emancipation Network (TEN) is an international organization dedicated to fighting human trafficking and modern day slavery. We help survivors of slavery rebuild their lives after rescue from slavery, with sustainable income, education and help reintegrating into society. We work to prevent slavery in high risk communities such as red light and refugee communities, by creating jobs for adults and through volunteer trips and donations to our shelter partners for rescue, school fees, emergency needs and reintegration.
Did you know that according to the U.N. there are 27 million people living in slavery? 27 million. Men, women and children in every country are bought and sold for labor, domestic service and commercial sexual exploitation. An estimated 17,500 foreign nationals are trafficked annually into the United States.
The Emancipation Network brings us the Made By Survivors Store. There they sell beautiful handicraft products made by survivors or those at risk of being trafficked into slavery. Some of the items in their store include jewelry, handmade paper products, bags and wallets and clothing products.
This adorable Monkey backpack is made by survivors in Nepal. It’s made of felt and fully lined. The Elephant and White Bear are two other designs that any kid would love!
What a great lesson to share with your child too. Often times we take for our easy way of life for granted. I know I’m guilty of it.
I really love the jewelry! So beautiful and all handmade! The lovely piece to the left has 5 sterling silver discs and gray-blue freshwater pearls, it’s an 18″ necklace crafted by women coming out of brothel slavery in Thailand.
It’s so beautiful!
