That big orange thing? It’s my lifesaver nightmare. This week, we’ve run out of binkies. They are just disappearing…and out of desperation, I ordered 7 more. (Ahem, enabler)
I feel like a failure. I just purchased 7 more binkies for my 2 year old. What in the world is wrong with me?
A couple of weeks ago 5 Minutes for Mom wrote this post about those well loved suckies. It’s made me feel a little bit better, I know I’m not the only one. Part of me worries about what others think. There goes that mom and her binkie loving child! Yes, I know it’s none of their business, but still.
We talk about giving up the Mum-Mum (that’s what she calls it), when it’s suggested it sends Paige into a panic mode, so clearly, she’s not ready…right?
Instead I’m left thinking…Mum-Mums, I wish Pea (I) could quit you!

I just wrote a post last week about the paci. Isabella loses hers all. the. time! And she’s 2 also. We tried the no paci thing when we couldn’t find any of hers…lets just say I bought plenty so I won’t have to go through a nite like that ever again
The way I see it is that she won’t use a paci forever–I’ve yet to see someone graduating high school with a paci
So don’t feel bad, hon–there’s plenty of us out there
LOL Chelle – true – I haven’t seen high schoolers with them either, unless it’s Halloween.
I know how hard it is Sky…I have no advice, but you are certainly not alone. I think soon she will give it up on her own. I hope so. ((hugs))
Out of four children only one was so attached to their binky that at the age of two going on three we were at a birthday party for my nephew and they had a guy dressed up like Batman I paid the guy ten dollars to get mmy son to give him the binky. Well my son did give Batman the binky and never asked for one again. I know what you mean about them disappearing it’s like there is a ghost taking them and never to be seen again.
We are having a hard time getting rid of ours too!
Our dentist told us we needed to toss ours (I say this as I see my 2 year old sucking on his paci at this moment – hold on while I grab it). So he only has it in bed and on the random long car trip. The one he has now is the tethered one we use for car rides that Hubby didn’t put away high enough… That is my excuse. LOL
Yep — been there, done that!
In our family, we ultimately had to go “cold turkey” as there was none of the “self-weaning” anytime in our future. Tossing the pacis created a rugged 24 hours…but it not as bad as I had imagined. I definitely believe each kid is different; some need security objects longer — and I’m fine with that (in general). My husband, on the other hand, was freaked about our 2 year old’s teeth — which prompted the hard core approach. (We did the “give your paci to other babies” and “Elmo called; he wants his paci back” kinder approaches… to no avail. Basically, it was starting to cause more problems than it helped. If we could not locate said paci (which was EXACTLY like yours!) then all heck broke loose. You dont want to know how many of those things *I* bought.
Bottom line is: we all do what we have to do… and nothing irritates me more than judgmental folks. I dont care if it’s breastfeeding, co-sleeping, paci-use, working decisions, etc. We’re here to help one another — no condemnation allowed!
What’s wrong with you? Nuthin’!
One day she wont need it. She wont even want it. Don’t stress yourself out about it. When she is ready (or YOU are ready to deal with the wrath to come) she’ll give it up.
I know how that is. I have a 4 yr old that sneaks it. He just turned four so its not so bad and its only at bed time and not every night he has a doggie that he sleeps with and just some nights needs to have it.
Sanity has it prices and just remember she won’t go to preschool with it. or at least not to college LOL
