The Very Hungry Toddler

We feed this child.  A lot.  Yet, by listening to her, you’d never believe it.  Typically, on a normal day I hear “I wanna EAT!” 4, 593 times.  Okay, that number may be a smidgen high. Paige starts off the day with either pancakes or waffles (woofles, as she calls them).  Sometimes a piece of toast or cereal is added to that.  She usually has water, juice and coffee.  No, she doesn’t really drink the coffee, but she wants her own mug with coffee and cream. About 10:30, I hear “I wanna EAT!”.  So sometimes she has cheese, olives or dry cereal.  About 11:30, I hear “I wanna EAT!”.  I try to hold her off until noon…sometimes it happens,... [more]

Moody Mama’s Maternity Clothes *Closed*

This giveaway is now closed.  Congrats to comment # 104 Nicole and Stevie! Recently, I was asked if I’d be interested in working with Moody Mamas.  No, we’re not adding to our family…let me be clear about that right now…not that I don’t want to! The holidays are such a busy and festive time.  It’s always go, go, go.  When you are pregnant or even nursing, you still want to look good!  That’s where Moody Mamas comes in.  Their clothing is stylish and comfortable. The “baby” of Marta Abrams and Elise Rosemarin was born in Spring 2008.  Oddly enough, neither one have ever been pregnant.  The did however, go through “Maternity... [more]

We’ve Made the K’NEXion

With the cooler months upon us here in Nebraska, I encourage the kids to play with “constructive” toys, rather than sitting around in front of the TV. We were introduced to K’NEX about 4 years ago, and Johnny played with them all the time.  He has that knack to not only read the directions to create, but he’s good at creating his own masterpieces.  K’NEX inspires creativity, builds self-confidence and encourages interaction among children and parents. Johnny received the 400 pc. Value Tub…and it was like Christmas all over again!  Included in the Tub is an instruction booklet with over 20 models to create.  Pictured is his own creation. Geared for kids... [more]

Thanksgiving Duo *CLOSED*

This giveaway is now closed.  Congrats to Badger Momma, comment #12. Sandra Lee says it best:  “Thanksgiving is the perfect time to bring everyone together to celebrate a year of blessings. Serve savory and decadent dishes such as Savory Bread Pudding and Praline Sweet Potato Casserole on an inviting table, filled with rich colors and seasonal textures. Simple, time-saving shortcuts to create a meaningful feast can be found in my new book Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade Cocktail Time. Give your gracious gathering a heartwarming start with my personal favorite, Joshua Bell’s album, At Home With Friends and greet guests at your door with a vibrant cocktail, such as a Peach and Apricot Cider or... [more]

Golden Moon Tea *Closed*

This giveaway is now closed.  Congrats to comment # 79, Jeanine. Those who know me, know I’m a coffee drinker.  My other vice, ice tea.  I’m an occasional hot tea drinker though. I think I’d like it a lot more if I had a proper tea pot and loose leaf tea.  I’ve been eyeing all of the teas and gorgeous pots over at Golden Moon Tea.   I do know that my favorite tea (hot or cold) is English Breakfast Tea.  It’s said that a spot of cream and spoonful of sugar make it all the better. I’ve heard that the Oolong Tea is the best of the best.  Reading up on tea, it came from Southern China 5,000 years ago.  I’ve learned quite a bit about tea reading... [more]

Auction High

I’ve been in a funk lately.  I can’t seem to shake it.  So, yesterday I took some me time.  I went to an auction.  Something I used to do before I started working at the library.  I miss it…working on Saturdays isn’t as easy as I thought it would be.  First, I spotted this beautiful piece…and kept my eye on it.  That’s about all I did.  I think it went for $75, which was a great price…just not for me! Then I found this lovely chair.  I entertained the idea of recovering it to match my set in the front room.  Unfortunately, they sold it with the chair next to it…which was a shame because it was a real p.o.s.  Now, I’m kicking myself…I... [more]

I’m a Kitchen Ninja!

Back in September, I went to New York City for the unveiling of the Ninja Master Prep.  The Ninja has quickly become my best friend in the kitchen.  It’s a blender/food processor that really isn’t.  Nope, it’s so much more.  It comes with all the items pictured below.  It’s dishwasher and microwave safe.  Another bonus, all items are BPA free.  You really are in control of what you make! The Ninja Master Prep is used at least three to four times a week in our house.  From dicing my green peppers and onion for chili, mashing the bananas for banana bread, creating delicious frozen coffee drinks….the list can go on and on. The Ninja Master Prep is revolutionary... [more]

Kelloggs With Fiber!

I know I’ve talked about it before, but Paige has “issues”.  I have to keep a watchful eye on her diet and get the biggest bang for our buck…so to say. It’s not surprising that 9 out of 10 kids lack enough fiber in their diets.  It’s just too easy to fall into the old quick and easy junk food diet. Well friends, I’m want to share with you a special treat.  Thanks to the Kellogg’s Company, kids (and adults) can get more fiber from two of their most popular cereals.  Apple Jacks and Froot Loops now have three grams of fiber per serving.  With ingredients such as whole-grain corn flour, whole-grain oat flour, oat fiber and soluble corn fiber…it’s... [more]

WW – Lucy Post Surgery

Lu had surgery yesterday to remove what I called her Lady Lump off of her hip.  Thankfully, it wasn’t cancer.  It was a cyst, to which she now has a drainage tube sticking out of her.  It’s disgusting. The poor puppy feels like poo…I wish I could make it better for her.  Here’s to hoping that tomorrow we can get that tube removed and she’ll be back to her Barky BonSchnauzer self, with 45 stitches.  It’s probably not that many, it just looks like it.  Read More →

The Hills are Alive…. *CLOSED*

This giveaway is now closed.  Congrats to Jennifer Tilson, comment #123. As a child, I was constantly singing Do-Re-Mi.  I can’t remember when the obsession started, but I’m willing to bet that The Sound of Music is fully responsible for my love of Broadway shows.  The Sound of Music first opened on Broadway 50 years ago this month.  In fact, it was the last musical collaboration between composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II. The Sound of Music ran 1,443 performances on Broadway, toured the U.S. for several seasons and became an even longer-running hit in London when the first British production (1961) ran twice as long as its Broadway counterpart. Then,... [more]

American Tears

Last Wednesday, the 4th graders at Jefferson performed an incredible Veteran’s Day program.  This is their music teacher, Mrs. Feusner’s first year…and she did an outstanding job! One of the songs they sang was American Tears.  It’s a song that will not only touch your heart, but remain there.  Written by Teresa Jennings, the lyrics to this wonderful song… American Tears Sometimes I think about America. About her struggles through the years. I think of people who, did what they had to do with the strength to act their fears. Sometimes I think about America.  About her future and her past. I know I’m blessed to be, living in Liberty. In a land where freedom... [more]

I received the flat rose bracelet in sterling silver with a fuchsia cord.  It’s delicate.  Simple, yet stunning.  It just adds that extra touch…I find myself... [more]

Sunsweet Ones *Closed*

This giveaway is now closed. Congrats to Peggy Gorman, Jessie C., Lisa, Crysta Allen and Shelly. You’ve heard of Super Fruits, right?  You know the ones: Antioxidants: Prunes are rich in antioxidants. Studies show that antioxidants may play a role in disease prevention and may slow the aging process in both body and brain. Potassium:  Move over bananas! Ounce for ounce, Prunes have more potassium than bananas. Studies have shown potassium helps prevent hypertension and stroke. Heart Health:  Prunes can help play a role in preventing heart disease and chronic diseases because they’re rich in antioxidants, which slow the chemical process of oxidation and protect key cell components... [more]
