American Tears

Last Wednesday, the 4th graders at Jefferson performed an incredible Veteran’s Day program.  This is their music teacher, Mrs. Feusner’s first year…and she did an outstanding job!vday

One of the songs they sang was American Tears.  It’s a song that will not only touch your heart, but remain there.  Written by Teresa Jennings, the lyrics to this wonderful song…

American Tears

Sometimes I think about America. About her struggles through the years.
I think of people who, did what they had to do with the strength to act their fears.
Sometimes I think about America.  About her future and her past.
I know I’m blessed to be, living in Liberty. In a land where freedom will last.

For the heros. For the patriots.  For the soliders.  For all the pioneers.
I will always be an American, and I’ll always cry American Tears.

Sometimes I think about America, about her people’s legacy
I wonder if they knew, that what they had to do
Would be known throughout history.
Sometimes I think about America.  About her pain along the way
I know it had to be for our democracy.  For the world we live in today.

For the heroes. For the patriots.  For the soldiers.  For all the pioneers.
I will always be an American, and I’ll always cry American Tears.

For the heroes. For the patriots.  For the soliders.  For all the pioneers.
I will always be an American, and I’ll always cry American Tears.

Yes, I will always be, an American…and I’ll always cry American Tears.

It makes me so very thankful for all of those who have served and are currently serving.  I can never say it enough…thank you!

Way to go 4th grade!  The show was amazing!!

I don’t know that I’ve ever heard that song before. The lyrics are beautifully written though. I’ll have to ask Mat if he has heard it. Thank you for sharing them and what a wonderful pick for them to sing.

Sounds like a wonderful event.

I have never heard this song either…it is so much more endearing and meaningful when little kids sing because they are so young and they still seem to GET stuff that even adults dont…or are too busy to care about. Great lyrics. Makes me feel lucky others came before us to brave the way.

When I was in 5th grade we sang this for all the parents and they all loved it. I asked my teacher for a copy of it then and I made a video for it. I am now in 9th grade and my church requests me to sing it every year. It always makes my whole church cry.
