Ultimate Party Meatballs!

by seeryusmama on December 2, 2009

It’s my favorite time of year for cooking!  I’m always looking for quick and easy dishes, not only for my family, but for other events that come up.  We’ve all had the BBQ meatballs as an appetizer, right?  I don’t know about you, but mine are always lacking that extra…something.

I was really excited about being able to try out the Ultimate Party Meatballs from Mom Central.  Never in a million years would I have mixed Ocean Spray Jellied Cranberry sauce and Heinz Chili sauce together.  I wouldn’t have guess that combo would be all that rockin’.  It was rockin’ by the way!  The week of Thanksgiving my work schedule was a bit wonky.  Having to work all day on a Monday throws me.  However, I came home on my lunch to prepare the meatballs for dinner.  It was so easy!

Ingredients

  • 1 14-ounce can Ocean Spray® Jellied Cranberry Sauce
  • 1 12-ounce bottle Heinz® Chili Sauce
  • 1 2-pound bag frozen, pre-cooked, cocktail-size meatballs

Directions

Stove Top: Combine sauces in a large saucepan. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring until smooth. Add meatballs. Cover and cook for 15 minutes or until meatballs are heated through, stirring occasionally.

Slow Cooker: Place meatballs in a slow cooker. Combine sauces and pour over meatballs. Cover and cook 4 hours on HIGH.

Makes 30 appetizer servings.

I actually put the Slow Cooker on Low for 8 hours because we eat late usually.  They turned out perfectly!  I must share with you, Paige LOVED these meatballs!  We put 3 on her plate, cut them into toddler size bits and she gobbled them up!  She was asking for more before I had even started eating, she’s a good eater anyway, but that girl went to town on meatballs.  Johnny, he didn’t care for them, but he’s a picky eater and doesn’t like much of anything.  I will be making meatballs like this again, it was simple and the meatballs had the right amount of flavor.  They were excellent!

I plan on keeping this recipe and the others I’ve found (Sweet BBQ Chicken Dip) on hand for when I entertain or just want to try something new.  I’m thinking Bunko!  The next time I host, my menu is planned…and it’s going to be easy!

I would never have thought to use cranberry sauce. They sound yummy and fast easy stuff for holiday get togethers are great. I am going to try these out.

I made these meatballs for a party in February and they were a hit. The ingredients are now a regular in my pantry and we eat them regularly with egg noodles. Even my toddler loves them1

This sounds good. They aren’t spicy with the chili sauce? My boys mostly love meatballs, so maybe I’ll try this. thanks. :)

I have heard of people adding cranberry and grape jelly to them but I have never tried it.
