What Are You Reading Monday

by seeryusmama on December 28, 2009

My friend Knitty takes part in this meme…and since I’m a reader, I thought I’d play along. If you want to join in, head on over to J. Kay’s Book Blog.  You’ll find the deets all nicely packaged there.

Books completed last week, due to the holiday, I didn’t get much reading in.

  • Cleaving:  A Story of Marriage, Meat and Obsession by Julie Powell  Having read Julie and Julia, I was really excited to read Cleaving.  Oy Vey.  It was a struggle to get through.  I enjoyed reading about the time at Fleischer’s, the butcher shop where she apprenticed.  The folks were funny, witty and downright hilarious.  The rest was just…ehhhh.  About the two men she was struggling with.  Her husband Eric and D, the guy she’s having an affair with.  It’s around D that drives me nuts.  Frustrating.  That said, I don’t know if I’d recommend this book, but I’d eagerly recommend Julie and Julia.
  • My Horizontal Life:  A Collection of One Night Stands ~ Chelsea Handler  I was laughing from the first story in the book…and continued to laugh to the end.  The one-liners and Chelsea’s sense of humor, it was a winner in my book!  All about her exploits with one night stands, or not so one night…Chelsea overindulges in alcohol and drugs, but it’s funny.  Laugh-out-loud-tears-rolling-down-your-face funny.
  • I, Alex Cross ~ James Patterson  The latest installment in the Alex Cross series, it’s magnificent.  In my opinion, one of the best series out there.

Currently reading:

  • UnSweetined ~ Jodie Sweetin  Not something I typically read, but it was there on the library shelf calling my name.  So far, so good.  Honest and witty.  I’m anxious to see how it turns out.

Wow! What a selection. I was eying the Julie Powell book yesterday! And the Chelsea Handler sounds good, too.

Love the Alex Cross series too! Was Jodi Sweetin the actress in Full House?

Frankly, I don’t think any of those sound good, but I loved Julie & Julia! Loved the movie too! I do not care for books that center around immoral activity and vulgar topics. I do not understand a lot of that. Partly why I dropped out of a book club I belonged to. Thanks for your views and knowing what these books are about!

I would love to read the book Cleaving. Tight now I am reading Sherri Shepherd of the View’s book, “Permission Slips. She does an excellent job of intermingling humor with raw honesty.
