I'm one of those people that loves learning quirky facts.  So much so, I've read all of the Uncle John's Bathroom Reader books.  To be truthful, I've read them all many, many times.  Just one or two of the quips before I go to bed. We recently tried out National Geographic Kids, Weird But True.  It's a book chock-full of fun facts!  You never know when you'll need these little bits of knowledge. This Week on The View *Giveaway!*

So I'm having issues with this here little blog...and it's holding me back.  No worries though, they are close to being resolved and I appreciate you hanging in there with me!  In case you missed it, yesterday the women of The View did the Oscar Talk. Did you happen to see Sherri Shepherd there? I loved her dress, so beautiful!  Now, I'm not a big movie watcher and I did read Push, the book Precious was based on and it was really something.  Wow.  I was rooting for everyone nominated from that movie. Hip-hip-hooray!  It's another Monday!  I love the questions this week, probably because I let a little bit of myself out.  I dunno.  Anyway, remember, if you want to join in, head on over to Eighty MPH Mom.  That girl will hook you up!

Please excuse my mess!  I have several issues going on with my theme...and it will be changing here shortly!  Thanks for hanging in there with me!

Gearing Up For Gametime! *CLOSED*

I love football.  High school, college and pro.  I love it all!  Of course, I bleed red with my Nebraska Huskers, but we’re also fans of the New York Jets.  While I was disappointed that they didn’t make it to the Superbowl, I’m a fan of the New Orleans Saints…it’s all good!

That said, the Superbowl is one of my favorite days of the year.  I make finger foods for the family to enjoy all night long.  Last year we had, spicy wings, spinach artichoke dip, bbq meatballs, 7 layer mexican dip and stuffed puffed pastry bites.  It was delicious…and fun!  I’d have to rate it as a perfect day.  I guess that is why I’m excited for the game on Sunday.  It doesn’t hurt that the Saints are playing too!  GEAUX SAINTS!  I’m pretty sure we’ll just be hanging out at home, but I wouldn’t mind a small crowd of people to celebrate with.  There is still time to get a party organized and I can get all of my shopping done at Walmart.

Walmart has Game Time Snacks for Eight for as low as $44.00.  They have a customizable shopping list that will help you shop for a crowd of any size.  Drinks, chips, dips, veggie platters.  Take the work out of it…and the put the fun into it.  Don’t forget to check out their electronics, there are some great deals going on too!  There are also great ideas for half-time fun and decorating.

I’m using some of the Game Time recipes that are featured on Walmart’s website.  Bacon Pinwheels and Blue Cheese Cajun Burgers are topping my list this year.  I bet my kids would love to make the Brownie Footballs!

Money saving tip? When something is on sale at the grocery store, I stock up. It seems small but when you can save $1 or 50 cents an item and you buy 10 items to use over the next 10 or so weeks it can add up.

Super Bowl XIV I went to the Super Bowl in LA with some friends (Rams fans)and sat in the middle of Rams territory. I rooted for the Steelers and was not liked by fans near me so I had to keep kinda quiet. Steelers won!!

I was born and raised in Indianapolis. We had season tickets to the Colts games (pre-Peyton) – so I am a die hard Colts fan. So, my favorite memory is when they won the superbowl on 2/4/07 (yes, I remember the date). I can’t wait for Sunday – it’s going to be a good game, and I think I am making mini tacos and guacamole. Perfect! Go Colts!

My money saving tip is:use a blender and mix 32 (or so) ounces of cottage cheese, 1/4 cup of milk and 1 envelope of onion soup mix.
You have LOTS of a Super bowl onion dip for chips and veggies. YUM.

For your Super Bowl Party, stick with one or two inexpensive drinks such as lemonade or punch. Serve snacks that are part of the great sales now and combine them with coupons and/or rebates when possible.

My Super Bowl memory is trying to remember the next year what snacks I served the year before that were a huge hit. Since we have a houseful every year I try to vary what I offer and also introduce something new. This year I will be hosting 2 opposing “camps” from two different branches of our large family. Usually it has been in the past everyone rooting for the same team. So it is destined to get loud and rowdy. So I am trying to really think of novel snacks to offer to keep the wild group pacified. Thanks for the chance!

We’re gearing up for another 30+ inches of snow this weekend…we just got 6-8 last weekend, and the first blizzard of winter was right before Christmas. We’ll stock up on some comfort foods for the weekend to ride out the storm and enjoy the superbowl. I’m totally cheering for the Saints…Ricky Williams was a Texas Longhorn, after all. Baked potato skins with leeks, cheese, and bacon are on my menu!

i’m going to have to go with favorite superbowl memory being the last 30 seconds of the playoff game where the saints WON and we knew they were going to the superbowl. really the superbowl game is a win/win, it was GETTING to go that was the BIG WIN!

but 2nd memory will alwys be montana’s hail mary pass to win. i had met him 3 weeks before and it was pretty cool to see that!

My favorite Superbowl memory was the year that I sang to my young children (during the 1st game of the season) that “We’re going to the Superbowl” and danced around the living room. Now by “We’re going”, I had to explain that I meant “The Patriots” are going, and my husband the Dallas Cowboys fan just laughed. Week after week as the Patriots played (and won), my children & I would dance around singing “we’re going to the Superbowl”. Then they actually DID go to the Superbowl, and that day my children sand “We’re gonna win the Superbowl”…and sure enough they did!
