Keeping Hands Germ Free *Closed*

February 27, 2010 · 227 comments

Flu season is far from over.  I stress hand washing to the kids and when given the opportunity to try out the Healthy Touch No-Touch Hand Soap System from Lysol…I jumped on it!  After all, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends hand washing as the number one way to avoid getting sick and prevent the spread of germs to others.

With the Healthy Touch No-Touch Hand Soap System, I’m no longer asking – “Did you use soap?”.  The kids LOVE using this system!  And to be honest, I do too.  No more germy soap pumps!  I keep the system we were sent in the bathroom, and I’m going to purchase another one for the kitchen.  How many times have you washed your hands after touching raw meat, poultry or eggs?  Do you then wash the pump?  Uh, no.  In fact, the last time I was at the store, I meant to pick one up, but I had Paige with me.  And since hand washing is one of her favorite tasks…I didn’t feel like explaining why we couldn’t open the system to wash our hands in the store…45 times.  She’s two, what can I say?

The CDC offers the following hand washing tips for parents to teach their children.  It’s especially important to wash hands before eating and after using the bathroom.  Not only are they good for children, but really, for the whole family.

  • Wet hands with clean running water and apply soap. Use warm water if it is available.
  • Rub hands together to make lather and scrub all surfaces, including underneath the nails and back of the hands.
  • Continue rubbing hands for 20 seconds, long enough to sing the “Happy Birthday” song twice.
  • Rinse hands well under running water.
  • Dry hands using a paper towel or air dryer. If possible, use a paper towel to turn off the faucet.

The Lysol Healthy Touch No-Touch Hand Soap System that we received came with the Soothing Cucumber Splash scented soap.  Starter sets and the refills are available at Walmart for a suggested retail price of $9.97 (includes 1-dispenser, 1-8.5 oz. hand soap refill and 4 AA batteries). Hand soap refills (8.5 oz.) are available in three fresh scents, Soothing Cucumber Splash scent, Cleansing Green Tea & Ginger scent and Refreshing Grapefruit Essence scent at Walmart for a suggested retail price of $3.47.

Overall, it’s a keeper.  My children really like to wash their hands.  I’d recommened shutting it off if you are going to be picking the system up to clean the bathroom though.  I learned the hard way!  It’s easy to do, there is a little switch on the back.
