A Child Writes

Did you have a PenPal growing up?  I know I did several time though school activities…and there was nothing better than receiving that bit of mail!

I’m excited to share with you, A Child Writes.

It’s a free, safe environment for children to come together to be matched with online PenPals.  It’s an opportunity for children to meet another child their age to interact.  Whether they are writing letters, sending emails or participating in moderated online parties and chats.  It’s PenPals in the age of technology. And, as a parent, I’m glad to know that it’s safe…there is someone monitoring and working hard to keep our children safe.

From the A Child Writes website:

What can I do on A Child Writes?

  • You can create your child their own free profile displaying only usernames, birth dates, gender, bio and hobbies.  No personal or contact information shared publicly.
  • You can browse other profiles and request friends based on similar hobbies.
  • Your child will be matched with a PenPal as soon as possible and invited to a private group to write him/her back and forth.
  • Members can join invited online parties for their age group.
  • Members have the ability to enter all contests held on A Child Writes by following contest specific guidelines.
  • Parents can read and share all articles found on A Child Writes.
  • Parents can submit their child’s story and/or photo to be considered as the Featured Member of the month.

What can I not do on A Child Writes?

  • Profiles are not visible to non-members.
  • Members are not able to send private messages outside of their matched PenPal group.
  • Members may not join online parties held for age groups other than their own.
  • Profanity and vulgarity are not allowed inside the Party Room or anywhere else on the A Child Writes site.  Conducting this behavior puts the member at risk of losing their membership.

How does it work?
Once you sign up for your free membership, you will use your username and password created during registration to log in.   You will receive a welcome email with instructions on what to do next.  In order to be matched with a PenPal you must accept the friendship request from A Child Writes profile, ACW, which is the administrator on the site.  Once you have been matched with a PenPal you will be sent a group invitation that you must join in order to interact with your PenPal.  You will also be sent a group invite depending on your age that you must join in order to be invited to A Child Writes’ online parties.

Creator, Dwan Perrin has thought of everything…right down to reaching out to Monthly Causes.  Each month A Child Writes will feature a different cause, charity or organization.  Members are encouraged to create cards, artwork or crafts to be sent to those affected or involved in the Monthly Cause.  Then, at the end of the month, A Child Writes will hold a contest where three members who participated will win a prize!

You can find A Child Writes on Facebook, Twitter and Flickr.
