Here Today – Gone Tomorrow

Yesterday was a day from hell.

After several days of rain and late Saturday night and early Sunday morning a down pour, Brandon found water in Pea’s closet.  Not a big deal, this has happened before and it’s our guess that when we re-landscaped the front yard we didn’t pick plants that needed a lot of moisture.

So, I hopped on the computer, ever efficient and decided that we’d get some pussy willows.  I went to the basement to tell Brand and to my surprise found water…everywhere.  In a matter of minutes our basement was flooded.

My partially refinished basement where Paige’s room, Brand and I’s room, our family room, laundry room and our new bathroom is.  We were almost done with the basement, we just needed to find flooring for the laundry room and hallway.

After a call to a few friends and family, we had an enclosed and packed the basement up in a matter of minutes.  Thankfully, little was ruined,  although in the rush I don’t know where anything is.  However, we went from a 4-bedroom 2-bath house, to a 2-bedroom, 1-bath.  Below is a picture of the carpet padding being scrapped from the floor, at this time we had 3-4″ of water.

Paige is really confused.  She doesn’t understand where her bedroom went and she wants it back.  She’s missing her stuffed toys, CD player and will go downstairs and pat the wall to tell us “I want my bed right here.  Please, put it back.”  It’s breaking my heart.

It could be worse.  I know, I know.  Brandon and I have worked on refinishing the basement the last 11 years.  And now, we have to start all over again.  It’s hard to deal with. Because I can see all of the time, money and sweat we’ve put into the place.  We’ve always lived within our means and finished projects as we had the money.  That’s why it too so long, we haven’t refinanced the house to finish it in a timely manner, we took our time and truly made it home…with our two hands.

And now our work is gone.

I’ve cried a thousand tears, but I’m so thankful for our friends and family…and we’ve still got each other.  And we’ll get through this too.

Sky, I ran into MaryMae and Johnny yesterday at Menards. I am so sorry! I offered our (well, Eric’s ) assistance in moving things, but, they said it was all moved. If there is anything I can do, please, let me know. Big Hugs! :)

If there is one thing I promised myself in my own house, it was I would do anything NOT to have water in the basement. I am so sorry you have to deal with this! When I was 9 month pregnant we were building a house and temporarily at my mom and dads ~ and we were in their basement. I woke up and stepped into about a foot of ICY cold water – it was right up to the edge of our mattress. It really was NOT any fun at all. You will need to fix the issue to insure it doesn’t keep happening — good luck with that!

OMG Sky, so sorry!!! If there is anything we can do to help at all, please let me know!! I know how Paige must feel. MacKenzie was gone for the weekend, and it just totally made Kaitlynn freak out all weekend. Randomly she would come up and ask us where MacKenzie was. Like she was lost! HUGS!

My uncle sent a few pics of Cody park. WOW. So very sorry to hear about the flooded basement. My daughter knows others that had the same problem. It hurts my heart that you lost so many man-hours of work as well as now having to start over in some areas.
Blessings to you.

this is so sad! I hope it all goes back together with little pain. I can’t imagine how your little one feels at losing her room :( (((HUGS)))

We got water in our basement a couple weeks ago. We had never had any type of moisture problems before, so it was very annoying and I don’t know why it happened. We had to rip out carpet and drywall too – very discouraging! I know what you guys are going through, and we kept saying the same thing “it could have been worse!” Good luck getting it fixed up.
