Lovable Labels BlogHer ’10 Getaway Contest

The job of Mama isn’t one to be taken lightly. It’s certainly the most challenging job I’ve ever had and it comes with the biggest rewards. I’ve come up with a little resume for those aspiring to be a mother.

MAMA I (and only)

ROLE: Mother to children who may or may not of come from your body. Includes doing your very best and raising them to be respectful human beings who not only care for others but for their environment and most importantly themselves.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Transportation specialist, banker, mediator, nurturer, laundress, household goddess, and chef. Work usually involves multi-tasking -feeding hungry mouths, calming fussy babies and wiping butts. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and with “The Look“. Knowledge regarding usage of a washer/dryer, microwave, stove top and oven, toaster and vacuum.

SPECIAL NOTE: Very competitive salary. The job of Mama I is fast-paced and overtime is required. Duties vary day to day and problem-solving is key. Seeking career-minded individuals who are flexible and have an eye for detail.*

*MEANING: There is no salary, you are paid in hugs and kisses…it’s the paycheck you’ll love the most. There isn’t any sort of training, you jump right in and take off running. There isn’t down time. Job requires someone dedicated to working days/nights/weekends. Forget getting away for the weekend, even if you manage to, your heart will be at home. Duties may vary but you can count on saying “Take out the trash!”, “Clean your room!”, and “You’re wearing that?” at least 3 times a day. To throw a twist in there, sometimes you’ll have to figure out what to do when you’ve just changed the last diaper in the house and find the missing flip-flop that was right there 10 minutes ago – oh, it’s great fun. Once you join the “Mama Club”, you will always be a member, it’s a life sentence. So get used to sleeping in a twin bed with a wiggly toddler, picking every bit of lettuce off a taco, while that particular lettuce hating kid is demanding a salad.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A heart full of love, understanding and laughter.

I tried to get it all down, but now that I’ve re-read, there is so much more I could add.  What mother couldn’t?  However, my time was running short, I guess I work best under pressure.  This post was written ffor the Lovable Labels BlogHer ’10 Getaway Contest, which would be fabulous to win! I’m going to New York City to attend BlogHer in 22 days. It will be the longest time wise I’ve been away from my husband and children…and you can bet my heart will be left with them.

Well isn’t that the true meaning of being a Mom? No salary, no benefits, but a whole lot rewards! What a great description of what a Mom is. Lovable Labels would be lucky to have you as their representative at BlogHer.

What a wonderful post – and one that describes motherhood to a “T”. It is the toughest job one can ever do, but the rewards are so worth it. There is no better job in the world : )

I know you will do an amazing job for Lovable Labels. Good luck Sky!
