Moon Dough. It’s either something you love or something you hate. Me? I have mixed feelings. My daughter? Absolutely freakin’ loves it. Moon Dough is a molding compound…almost like marshmallows but not sticky. They say it cleans up easily (keep reading), never dries out and can be used again and again. So far, the fact that it never dries out is spot on.
We were sent the Moon Dough Barnyard Play Set – it’s a magical molding barnyard that transforms the dough or hay bales into a cow, pig, sheep and horse. It’s really quite clever. Included was a fence and hay bale mold, themed play mat and three colors of Moon Dough.
Paige has had great fun with this set. It’s been a great way for her to pass the time while Johnny is at school and she loves making those little animals. Although, to get the proper shape from them, parental assistance is needed. You’ve really got to press the moon dough into the mold.
We started out playing with just one color at a time, but that soon fell by the wayside. The colors swirl together, rather than becoming a new color. Don’t ask me how I know, I’m sure you can guess. If you think I tried to get them to blend together by playing with the dough for a ridiculous amount of time, you’d be right. So right.
I like the fact that Paige loves Moon Dough, I can see why. It’s a fun texture and even I’m wondering what in the world it really is. Word to the wise – it gets everywhere. I mean it. Unlike Playdoh that sticks together…Moon Dough is, well lack for a better word, fluffy and sure it sticks together…but you’ll find bits and pieces here and there. I’ve learned to deal with it and we only play with Moon Dough at the kitchen table (no where near carpet!).
You can find Moon Dough at Toys “R” Us, Target, Walmart, Kmart, Amazon.com, A.C. Moore, Michaels and eToys.

Is this anything like the Moon Sand that stick to everything and doesn’t come out of anything? lol My neice conned me into buying her Moon Sand last year to only find out from her dad she wasn’t allowed to have it!! He said it got in her clothes and all over the carpet needless to say they had to get rid of those items! I got stuck with a toy opened that she only used once! Lucky me when we played with it, it was outside lol
I was wondering too if this was like Moon Sand. My daughter loves Moon Sand but she can only play with it at the kitchen table. I have to lay a mat out for her. Sounds like she would like Moon Dough as well. I might give it a try.
Okay, I’m trying to get past the vision of you, at the kitchen table with Paige, trying for ours to get the moon dough different colors to blend….. ummmm Sky – what up with that girlfriend? (ROFL) I can almost see the look of concentration and the occasional peak from Paige of “ummm mommy?” as you tried and tried to get that stuff to blend into one indistinguishable color…. *ROFL* You were just trying to make your moon dough animals their own special color – right?
Either way, there is gonna come a time in a few short years, where this will be happening once again in my house… with my grandchild…. WOOT WOOT — BRING IT ON!
I am glad you posted this my 2 and 3 year old daughters as well as 7 year old step-daughter all want it for Christmas and wasn’t sure what what the texture was like. I can see it being all over, but it has got to be better than mushed playdoh in the rugs.
