I’ve heard of this gluten-free thing, but I’ve not really paid much attention to what it really is. Apparently, gluten is a protein mixture found in foods processed from wheat and related grain.
And it really messes with some people, thus the need for gluten-free foods.
When asked if I’d be interested in trying some gluten-free product, I agreed, not only because I’m curious of the gluten free thing but because it was from company based in Denver, CO – relatively close to my digs.
Udi’s sent an assortment of bagels, muffins and granola. Perfect for a family going without a kitchen!
First up, Udi’s Plain Bagels. I have to start by saying my daughter LOVES bagels. It’s her morning food and morning just aren’t the same without ‘em. One thing I noticed about Udi’s Plain Bagels is that they are soft. Much softer than any other brand I’ve purchased. Warmed with a bit of butter and jam, they were a hit with Paige. It’s a different texture and taste, not necessarily a bad different, just different. After all, it’s my first experience with gluten free foods!
Next we tried Double Chocolate Muffins and Blueberry Muffins. If you’re a chocolate lover, head right for those Udi Double Chocolate Muffins! They are moist, I thought a bit dense but oh-my-stars delish! And, they are topped with mini chocolate chips. These muffins went fast in my house, of course my kids go for anything chocolate and these muffins I were something I was happy to serve them, they honestly thought it was cake! If they noticed any difference, I didn’t hear about it!
The Blueberry Muffins were a treat as well. They are very moist and have sugar sprinkled on top. Warm them up for a couple of seconds in the microwave and you’re off to the start of a great day! The muffins come 4 to a pack and retail for $6.00 a pack. Sure, it’s pricier but they are worth it!
I’m saving the best for last. Udi’s Gluten Free Cranberry Granola is out of this world fabulous! Okay, it helps that I’m a granola fan anyway…but this is seriously good stuff! Featuring thick cut rolled oats, honey, dried cranberries and walnuts it’s a great breakfast food or snack throughout the day. The cranberries are the real deal. They are perfectly sweetened by the honey and while they are dried, they aren’t crisp. I would have loved to of had more walnuts, because they were delightful too. Again, it’s a bit pricey, but most definitely worth it. A 12oz. bag will set you back $6.50
For my local friends, check out our health food stores. You’ll find Udi’s Gluten Free Foods available there, which I found surprising…that’s a good thing! Otherwise, order online. Sign up to receive Udi’s newsletter and receive $1.00 off any product.
*I received Udi’s brand foods to review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Side note: Please excuse the lack of personal photos. A certain 4 year old had her moms camera and a number of pictures are missing.*
