Weird But True! *Giveaway*

I’m one of those people that loves learning quirky facts.  So much so, I’ve read all of the Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader books.  To be truthful, I’ve read them all many, many times.  Just one or two of the quips before I go to bed. We recently tried out National Geographic Kids, Weird But True.  It’s a book chock-full of fun facts!  You never know when you’ll need these little bits of knowledge. Johnny has been reading the facts and then we try to find more information online.  For instance, The Amazon rain forest is home to giant rodents- called capybaras- that are about as tall as German Shepherds. After using our friend Google, we were able to find... [more]

Keeping Hands Germ Free *Giveaway

Flu season is far from over.  I stress hand washing to the kids and when given the opportunity to try out the Healthy Touch No-Touch Hand Soap System from Lysol…I jumped on it!  After all, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends hand washing as the number one way to avoid getting sick and prevent the spread of germs to others. With the Healthy Touch No-Touch Hand Soap System, I’m no longer asking – “Did you use soap?”.  The kids LOVE using this system!  And to be honest, I do too.  No more germy soap pumps!  I keep the system we were sent in the bathroom, and I’m going to purchase another one for the kitchen.  How many times... [more]

Add More ~ing To Your Life!

Recently, I had the opportunity to read Add More ~ing To Your Life:  A Hip Guide to Happiness by Garielle Berstein.  This kind of book isn’t something I typically read, but when you feel as though a change is in order, you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do! Gabrielle Bernstein is the gal behind the ~ing.   She’s a motivational speaker and life coach seen riding around the West Village on a unicycle. (Gabrielle, I’m going to keep my eyes out for you when I’m in NYC this summer!) Her approach is woman focused.  She’s founder of HerFuture.com, a mentoring network for women that offers a platform for empowerment and guidance for young women.  Add... [more]

Going Retro with General Mills Cereal

Last week, I took a trip down memory lane.  As part of a promotion, General Mills, Target Stores and Atari have teamed up to bring sexy the good times back.  Now, in Target stores across the country you can find five limited-edition General Mill cereals sporting retro looks. Each box features a game or toy.  Remember cutting out the back of the boxes?  Ha!  This promotion lasts until March 7th.  General Mills cereals also sport Box Tops 4 Education.  (I collect these puppies faithfully.  If you ever need a place to sent your extra box tops to, email me.) How many readers remember having an Atari?  In 1982, about 10 million people owned and used Atari VCS consoles. We had one…which... [more]

The Sea ~ Corrine Bailey Rae

Heartbreakingly beautiful.  It’s exactly how I describe the new album by Corrine Bailey Rae, The Sea.  I feel like I’m taking a journey through emotions.  A journey of new depth, experience loss and grief.  The Sea, released January 26th, features the smooth jazz sound you can expect, only matured.  Having suffered the loss of her husband in March of 2008, The Sea is full of  loss, love, heartbreak and grief.  It’s all so beautiful. Bailey Rae’s self-titled debut entered the U.K. album chart at #1 in June 2006 and she was the first British female singer-songwriter in decades to have her debut album enter The Billboard 200 in the Top 20. Within the year, she had won... [more]

The Candy of Love

Valentine’s Day is a time to say sweet things.  When you have something sweet to say, say it with Sweethearts. I still remember those classroom Valentine’s Day parties.  Going through those candy hearts and pulling out the sayings that were perfect.  When I found the perfect saying on my favorite flavor, which was the white one, it was pure bliss. Sweethearts have changed it up a bit this Valentine’s Day.  It’s out with the old and hello 2010!  Through an online contest, the general public chose new sayings to adorn the candies.  The top 10 new phrases include: Tweet Me Text Me You Rock Soul Mate Love Bug Me + You And they are paired with the classic expressions: Puppy... [more]

Date Night Package *CLOSED*

I’m sure I’ve mentioned it…but just in case you’ve forgotten, Brand and I were married on Valentine’s Day.  Surprisingly enough, Brand was the one who wanted to get married on that particular day.  Romantic, right?  Yeah, well, he’s not.  He picked that day because it’s easy to remember, and in a sense, kills two birds with one stone.  No guy wants to forget his anniversary. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, many couples are planning the perfect evening out.  I can’t tell you the last time we went on a actual date.  I mean, we always seem to have one or both of the kids in tow…and that’s okay.  Perhaps that’s... [more]

Canker Cover *CLOSED*

When I get stressed, I get canker sores. It’s been that way since I was a child.   It’s brings me to the “OMG, Sweet Baby Jesus” mode that often includes tears.  Seriously, it hurts to eat, drink and talk because I don’t get one canker sore,  I usually get 5 or 6…and they are huge.  TMI, I know. I jumped at the chance to try Canker Cover! Canker Cover is the only over-the-counter canker sore treatment shown in clinical studies to significantly speed treatment.  The pill shaped patch adheres to the sore and forms a gel patch that protect the sore, relieves the pain and speeds treatment.  In two separtate clincal studies, Canker Cover was shown to heal... [more]

Rocking Out with Rockabye Baby!

Recently, I had the chance to try out the newest from Rockabye Baby, lullaby renditions of Guns N’ Roses. Yes, you heard it right, lullaby renditions of Guns N’ Roses.  It’s quickly become a favorite of our to enjoy.  I’ve introduced the Rockabye Baby music to Paige at bath time, and it’s become routine.  Calming and gentle, these instrumental lullabies provide a sense of serenity for bath time.  Brand is the big Guns N’ Roses fan, well a fan of anything hard rock.  I believe in exposing my children to all different kinds of music, it is a form of art and it’s important to have an appreciation for it! Also important to note, Rockabye Baby goes the... [more]

Making Perfect Scents! *CLOSED*

I love candles and smellies (ahem, good smellies) in the house.  What I don’t love is the black soot that comes from the candles.  Perhaps something is wrong with my house, but I’ve had several brands of candles fill my front room with soot and smoke, to the point that the smoke detector goes off.  I’m left with sooty walls and furniture/toys/floors that must be washed. I’m no longer worried about a soot filled room with Scentsy.  Scentsy is a wickless candle system.  Using a warmer heated by a light bulb, bars of wax are heated releasing their delicious scents. Amazingly enough, Scentsy is a rather new company…yet it’s grown so fast.  Having celebrated... [more]

Hatley Nature, Spoil Yourself

Paige loves horses.  She has ever since we went to the Kentucky Horse Park over the summer.  She was so excited to receive the Wild Horses Kids Zip-up Hoodie from Hatley. This sweatshirt coat is 100% French Terry, zip up  front horse applique, overall print hood and has two kangaroo pockets.  It’s got a nice weight to it.  This hoodie sells for $34.99. Let’s face it, it’s just downright adorable. Have you heard of how Hatley came to be?  According to their website, Growing up in the small town of Hatley (that’s Canada), the Oldland boys loved running naked through the woods. But the day came when Chris, Nick and Jeremy had to leave Hatley and enter the real world... [more]
